Little children coughing relentlessly may cause not just pain to the sufferer but also worrying for parents. An infrequent cough may just be a natural way of the body to clear the lungs. Having an infrequent cough does not necessarily indicate a more serious health issue. You may give haft a teaspoon of pure honey to your child as often as needed. However, honey should not be given to children below two years old because it possesses a certain microorganism that may cause infant botulism.

Honey and lemon

Giving your child warm fluid added with honey and lemon will help alleviate your child’s cough. To make a honey formula for your child’s cough, simply mix 1 tablespoon of honey, freshly squeezed lemon juice and warm water in to a cup. 

Chicken soup

Giving your child some chicken soup may also relieve his cough. According to some studies, it has been proved that chicken soup do offer therapeutic benefits especially for people who are suffering from various diseases including colds, cough and sore throat. It has also been pointed out that chicken soup possesses anti-inflammatory and mucus thinning properties that helps in alleviating the signs and symptoms of cough and colds. Chicken soup is said to be more effective if cooked and added with vegetables. 

Throat lozenges

You may give your child throat lozenges. These lozenges may help your child clear up the mucus that thrives in the throat, thus making your child feel more relaxed. It is important to ask a health care professional with regards to using throat lozenges. 


And lastly, it is a must to maintain an adequately hydrated system. Keeping your child hydrated all the time may help him get over with the discomfort brought on by cough. Water and juice are said to be potent expectorants which may help loosen up phlegm. Thus, giving your child something to drink can help ease frequent coughing. Give your child as much as eight glasses of water a day. 

Whether your child is suffering from a cold or cough, you may find the natural remedies as well as homemade suppressants to be very effective and safe. This is true to mild cases. However, if your child’s cough persists for a week, these certain remedies may not work well at all.
